My kitties immediately fell in love with this first purchase of Tiki Cat. They’re normally fed chicken only recipes which is why I first selected this formula. Although it a bit pricy, I love the fact that it’s made in the U.S.A. So far I’m giving it an A rating. But it will be up to my kitties to make the final analysis. One of my cats has a very sensitive digestive system, so I hope that this brand will fit the bill.

Is the Succulent Chicken Recipe the same as Puka Puka Luau? Could you provide the nutritional analysis on a calorie basis rather than by weight? Also phosphorus in mg/100kals? Thanks!

Hi! The Succulent Chicken is the new name for the Puka Puka Luau. Please email us at mail@tikipets.com and we would be happy to provide the complete nutritional analysis for this food!

Why is the chicken grey & gloopy at the BOTTOM of the succulent chicken can? I read your response about the cooking process but this does not explain the thick layer of grey chicken on the bottom. Is this safe?
(0) (0) Watch Unwatch
Admin Tiki Pets –
The discoloration of the chicken is a natural change that can occur as a result of the cooking process. When Tiki diets are canned, we use a high temperature and short cooking process to ensure the safety of the food for pets. This may cause discoloration as the chicken breaks down. While it may not look appealing, it is perfectly safe for your kitty to eat!

Is there a shortage of the succulent chicken and consume 6oz cans? I can’t find them anywhere. My local store say they haven’t been able to get them either. If so, When do you suspect a full production again. This has been the best for my cat with crystal issues.

Is this formulated for all life stages or for adults only? The can says formulated to meet AAFCO requirements for adult maintenance but I’ve also seen feeding instructions from Tiki Cat on feeding kittens with this product.

My little Merida, recently diagnosed with Megaesophagus Loves Tiki cat and has been able to keep this food in her stomach! She frequently loses her appetite, but goes crazy with excitement over her pouch dinner times! She also has to eat at an elevated level and LOVEs to stand up to eat directly from her pouch.

I just bought the Tiki Cat Variety pack (Queen Emma Luau) on some of the cans it indicates a feeding guide for kitten, but some do not. Does this mean only some of the cans should be given to kittens? For example the Succulent Chicken can doesn’t mention “kittens” but the sea bass can does.

Admin Tiki Pets –
Thanks for reaching out! Our formulas that do not list the kitten feeding guidelines are not meant to be fed as a full meal for a kitten. Formulas that list only adult feeding guidelines are meant for adult maintenance. Some varieties in our brand will be made for only adult maintenance while others are for all life stages. I hope this helps!

I’ve had all three of my cats on this for the past two years. I’ve switched one off of this food, which I will explain after I wax eloquent about Tiki Cat. Two of my cats are from the same litter, and both have some food intolerances that I’ve only been able to partially identify over the years. Grain, potatoes, peas, rice, gum, and starch regularly found in other cat foods would give them horrible indigestion. The Succulent Chicken flavor is great for them. I’d love if Tiki Cat would eventually make a Turkey flavor, since that’s the meat source they’ve had the best luck with.
I did recently switch my third cat off of this food. When I originally started him on Tiki Cat, it was after he’d developed a kidney stone on his old food. I fed him a prescription diet for a month – long enough for his stone to dissolve – before getting him off it, since prescription diet or not, the ingredients were bad. I have always been a firm believer that quality cat food will cure a lot of issues, so I switched him to Tiki and trusted that the quality would help prevent any future stones from developing. Thankfully he hasn’t had any issues on Tiki Cat, but his recent blood and urine tests show very early signs that he will develop kidney disease. I’ve done my duty as a good cat owner and I have researched kidney disease in cats as thoroughly as I can. Now that I am more informed, I have switched him off of Tiki in an effort to keep his kidneys healthy for as long as possible. The high protein content in Tiki Cat makes it amazing for two of my cats, but the suggestion for cats with kidney disease is that they should have less protein because protein is difficult for the kidneys to break down. Tiki Cat also does not offer formulas low in phosphorus, which can calcify the kidneys. Although his new food does not seem as great quality as Tiki, I did my best to find something healthy and formulated with low phosphorus and protein.

It looks like you’re now offering a “pate” version of this and images in your website appear to show that the “pate” version will be marked as such. However, for the last few months, in both the 2.8 oz cans and the 6 oz cans (neither of which have had the “pate” label), the consistency has appeared to be that of the “pate” (mushy, very finely shredded) which both my cats despise.
Over the last few years, it has been very inconsistent: sometimes we receive the good chunky version that they like and sometimes it’s the mushy pate version that they despise. Over the last year though, it’s been entirely the mushy pate.
I truly wish to continue feeding them Tiki Cat Succulent Chicken, but it is becoming more and more of a struggle to convince them to tolerate this mush. After 4 years of loyalty to Tiki Cat, I am beginning to research other brands that can provide a similar nutritional profile but will better appeal to my cats’ texture preferences.
I purchase cases of both the 2.8 oz and the 6 oz cans of the Succulent Chicken through Petco. When will you be supplying them with the chunky shreds version that my cats prefer? When will the labels of the cans accurately portray the textures of their contents?
Thanks.

Thanks for reaching out! We recently made slight changes to the vitamins and minerals in our foods, one of which was removing the vitamin k3 supplement from our Chicken formulas. That being said, we do recommend you follow the guaranteed analysis that is printed on the cans you have, since they will be correct for the product in your can.

The picture says it all. Pure wonderful shredded chicken. No stinky canned cat food! This is my back up food if my store is out of the Luau chicken with egg product. Either way it has NO stinky smell and my cats love it. I don’t buy the seafood cans as they will of course smell like real fish. So, no fishy smell and easy to feed chicken. So much easier than trying to cook the chicken yourself for a finicky eater. Tiki Cat has done all the work for you to feed a no grain, no carb cat food. When it’s on sale you can really load up on the quantity as being in a can it has a great shelf life. In fact, stop reading this and go get some! your cat will thank you!

I do not normally buy Tiki Cat because I do not feed any fish to my cats. However, I LOVE this product, as it’s nothing but beautifully shredded white chicken meat that my 2 kittens and 14 year old cat love. It’s a great meal topper to pates, or by itself. Highly recommend.

Correction to my previous review. Tiki Cat is produced in Thailand.
However, Tikipets states on it’s can that it follows AAFCO guidelines in the manufacture of its products.
According to AAFCO:
“AAFCO does not regulate, test, approve or certify pet foods in any way.
AAFCO establishes the nutritional standards for complete and balanced pet foods, and it is the pet food company’s responsibility to formulate their products according to the appropriate AAFCO standard.
It is the state feed control official’s responsibility in regulating pet food to ensure that the laws and rules established for the protection of companion animals and their custodians are complied with so that only unadulterated, correctly and uniformly labeled pet food products are distributed in the marketplace and a structure for orderly commerce.”

I have two cats, an older male Himalayan and a stray female kitten found on the side of the road. The male got diagnosed with kidney disease and renal failure last year. I received a printout of foods to switch over for a low phosphorous diet. Tiki Cat had been on the list (at least the Koolina Luau Chicken and Eggs and Puka Puka Chicken) so I got some. He’d always been a picky eater and now that he’d been sick barely ate. THIS FOOD ROCKS!! He got his appetite back and his blood work stabilized enough that he’s a sliver of his former self. I know he will never be better but this food helped even him out enough that we got more time with him. (have since had to switch to full prescription diet but the vet had been impressed with his progress) I will forever be grateful for the extra good time alone. And the other critter…I had the kitten on kitten food and slowly switched her over after her spay last month. She’s healthy and so happy!
I found a food that’s healthy for my imperfectly fabulous babies. THANK YOU!! I highly recommend. The cost is a bit more than some yuck smelling canned food off any shelf, but soooo worth the cost. Figure less vet bills make up for, let alone the happy putty-tats.

Had to change cat to all wet, low carb diet to reduce blood sugar due to diabetes. This formulation is great for that and is actually what a healthy diet for all cats should be. Kitty loves the taste. This is also highly rated on one of the natural cat food review sites and no BPA in cans! Very important. All of this in one food was very hard to find. Formulation and packaging is perfect, hope Tiki has this available for years to come.

Recently I’ve noticed there is some greyish meat at the top of every can, on top of the otherwise white meat. Users on other sites have also complained about this. Please explain this finding. Is it contamination? Is this discolored meat safe to feed our cats?
(0) (0) Watch Unwatch
Admin Tiki Pets –
Hello! Thanks for reaching out! The discoloration of the chicken is a natural change that can occur as a result of the cooking process. When Tiki diets are canned, we use a high temperature and short cooking process to ensure the safety of the food for pets. This may cause discoloration as the chicken breaks down (similar to what you might see in some of the foods you cook at home). Copper is a mineral that naturally occurs in the tissue of chicken and other species of fish, poultry and meat. Sometimes those species will discolor during cooking as the copper reacts to other minerals in the diet. (Copper is required for a complete and balanced diet, so removing it from the food is not an option, even if we could). Tiki diets are cooked during the canning process to ensure quality and food safety and so that they remain fresh until the can is opened. While the food may not be visually appealing, it is perfectly safe for pets to eat.
