Our 2 new kittens (3 months) and our adult cat (10 years) love this food. It is convenient to not have to feed kitten food the kittens, and cat food the adult cat! Besides, our adult cat kept stealing the other brand of kitten food that they were leaving behind, and was gaining a lot of weight. We really believe that the ingredients in this food will keep everyone happy and healthy. We leave the drive food during the day since we are gone at work. We are supplementing the dry food with wet food – Tiki is right, changing up flavors and textures is a great way to keep our cats happy and to broaden their horizons! I’m so happy I took a leap of faith and purchased this food. Can’t wait for them to try the canned food tonight for dinner!

I just started my cat on this food. My question is, she likes soft and crunchy. How much would I feed her if both to make sure she’s getting the nutrients she needs per day, she’s 8 lbs?

Hello! Thanks for reaching out. An 8lb cat would eat about 1/2 a cup a day of our dry food or 2 3 oz cans of our wet food a day. You could do half of each, being 1/4 a cup of dry food and 1 3 oz can of wet food a day, but this would all be dependent on the formula you are feeding her, along with her activity level, breed, and age. Feel free to email us at mail@tikipets.com if you need any more help with this!

At this time, we do not have the DHA or EPA percentages in our all lifestages foods, however our food does have fish oil in it, which does provide a source of DHA.

Hi, while we do have many customers that have cats with urinary issues that feed our food, our foods are not a vet diet and we do recommend consulting in your veterinarian to ensure that this food would be suitable to feed your cat. Typically, wet food is the best type of food to feed a cat that is having urinary issues because of the high moisture content in it. Please contact us directly is you have any other questions!

Good morning. I just purchased the Tiki Cat Born Carnivore as I have a 10 year old (10lb) adult cat; and a new 3 month old kitten (about 2lbs). I am wondering how much I should be feeding each of them. Plus is I also use the wet Tiki Cat Ahi Tuna what combination/ratio of wet and dry should I be using for the kitten and the adult cat.

    thank you

If feeding wet and dry food together, decrease the amount of Tiki Cat® Born Carnivore™ by approximately 1/8 cup for every small can (2.8 oz. or 3 oz.) can of Tiki Cat® wet food.

Finally food my cat will eat!

    Xtine

tl;dr my cat loves fish! And her poop looks better too!

I adopted my cat just over 3 months ago from a local foster-based charity. Since our meet & greet spot was a pet supply store, we were able to buy the same dry food she had been eating (Purina Pro plan, salmon & rice) which she wolfed down at alarming speeds. When that started to run low, we bought a more meat-forward food to transition to (Blue Buffalo hairball, chicken & rice), and she ate the combo of the 2 foods just fine, though she seemed to prefer the fish-based kibble and bat around the dark “life bits” in BB. Until about 2 weeks ago. She wasn’t finishing her meals most days, and when we only had BB left she would barely touch her food at all. I “weigh” (i.e. hold & subtract) her about once per week, and when I noticed she’d lost 1/2lb in one week (5% of her body weight), I was concerned and knew we needed a food she would actually eat. I did a lot of research and wanted to make sure anything we got was high quality and meat-first. Tiki Cat was consistently rated well, and this flavor (chicken/herring/salmon) especially was on the top 10 of several lists! As soon as we gave her a scoop, she has been into it. The food is very “fragrant” (borderline stinky) but it smells like the fish it is made of. And because the kibbles can require some chewing, she has slowed down when eating. And I’m glad to say she has been leaving her bowl empty! And it may sound weird, but her poop has been looking so much better since we switched to Tiki. On the previous kibbles, her poop was consistently light brown and rather hard, but that seemed like her “normal.” Until this food. Now her poop is a much deeper brown and more pliable, and less smelly too! Good things all around. This food may be a bit pricier but for these results it is worth every penny!

Thanks for reaching out! Feeding guidelines will vary based on the activity, sex, age, and weight of your kitty. That being said, our guidelines recommend you feed your 6 lb cat about 1/2 a cup of food and your 9 lb cat about 3/4 a cup of food a day. Please reach out to us directly if you have any other questions about feeding our product to your kitties!

My wife and I started our two cats on this brand a few weeks ago, and the changes are incredible. Our cat Cid was nearly 30 lbs when we began, and he’s lost 2 pounds since, and has been a happy, loving ball of chatty sunshine. He was never this active until we started him on Tiki. Thank you so much for helping my cat!

Hello! If your senior cat is starting to lose weight, you could try feeding them our Kitten formula, which has a higher amount of fat and calories in it and will help your kitty put on weight. Our Kitten formula is offered in a Velvet Mousse and in our Born Carnivore foods. Additionally, if your cat has a health issue, we do recommend consulting in your vet to make sure they will do well on that diet.

I started feeding my cat the dry food called chicken luau, which I got at a franchised pet supply store. We are really happy with its effect on her skin condition. Looking for a bargain, I saw a Tiki cat born carnivore dry cat food on sale at a big box store. It was called Tiki Cat® Born Carnivore® for Cats & Kittens Food – Chicken & Egg, Non-GMO
by Tiki Cat Item #5298839. It does not say “luau” on the label. The ingredients are different from the chicken luau that I bought at the franchise pet supply store, so I did not buy it. I do not see the Tiki Cat® Born Carnivore® for Cats & Kittens Food – Chicken & Egg, Non-GMO by Tiki Cat Item #5298839 on your website. Is that a discontinued product?

I recently switched to tiki cat for my 4 cats because I wasn’t happy with the ingredient changes in another dry food. All the cats love this and I was surprised when my cats developed less hair balls/dry heaving. Even though I’m not 100% sure it’s the food, that’s the only thing I’ve changed recently. I’ll be sticking with this! Love the wet food too.

    Quality Grain-free Cat Food

    Abbey

I searched high and low for the healthiest, low carbohydrate, semi-human grade cat food and I found it! I only have a few issues that I will discuss later. Starting with the ‘Taste’ category, I haven’t tried this food myself, but I’m sure my two cats would tell you that they find it much more appealing than their old food (Purina Indoor). In fact, my younger cat named Sunny picks through the mix of old (Purina) and new (Tiki) kibbles to eat the Tiki kibbles first. I also want to mention another sense: smell. The first time I opened the trial size of Tiki Cat Born Carnivore Chicken and Fish Lue, my Olfactory nerve was pleasantly awakened to a cat food that clearly had no grains- besides pea and was heavily populated with the kind of protein my cats need.

Now, onto the next two categories ‘Value for Money,’ and ‘Presentation.’ I rated the value for money 4 stars rather than 5 because I believe that the largest size should be cheaper. But other than that, the overall ingredient quality and company reputation is worth the money in my opinion compared to other grain-free brands with more filler ingredients and/or less reputable but still pricier. As for presentation, the packaging is refreshing and draws the eye. The food- as seen in the first photograph (only the exposure is edited), looks appealing in general color.

As for the negatives or rather what I disliked in this food. Starting with the most significant problem I had with this food, its density. What do I mean by density? Well, to put it plainly, the food seems to be too hard for my older cat Jazpurr. Jazz does not have confirmed dental issues, but he has always seemed to have had a hard time chewing his food. As seen in photograph 3, Jazpurr always leaves kibbles half eaten, but he has been doing it more with the new Tiki food than his old Purina food. He tends to dunk kibbles in water (photograph 4) as well, but unlike his old food, these kibbles don’t become softer once submerged in water; they stay the same. This could be seen as a good thing, proving the ingredient integrity, however, in my opinion it’s just gotten to be a larger mess than it was before. Since, the kibbles don’t soften, he doesn’t take them out of his water, so I have to change his water very often. Anyways, my other cat, Sunny does not have this problem, but it does concern me for further down the road in both of my cats’ lives. And maybe Tiki Cat should consider making a softer version of this food for elderly cats and cats with dental issues.

The only other negative I would like to highlight for potential buyers are some of the ingredients in the food. Like I said before, this food is the best priced most reputable brand for a grain free food, however, that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be some clear improvements. One of the ingredients that I am the most miffed by is the inclusion of whole peas and whole chickpeas. There is no verifiable research that pea protein is a valuable replacement protein for cats, there is research on it for dogs. Not cats, period. Until there is such evidence that peas are beneficial for a cat’s health do not include this as a filler or else I will low-grade scorn (not fully trust) your company. Adding on to that, other ingredients such as whole flaxseed, tomato pomace, chicory extract and rosemary extract are lesser evils, but they still have no research done on them for a cat’s benefit. Only research done for our canine friends. Dogs are a completely different species from cats, treat them this way. As many of you who have already done your research, pumpkin is the one fruit that was researched with cats to see the health benefits. However, there was one study and it was inconclusive whether it was beneficial or not. So, when a brand puts something like pumpkin in their food it just means its there as another filler to keep the cost down. The least on my list of worries is the chicken meal, salmon meal and herring meal only because they are labeled meals instead of just ‘animal meal.’ However, meals are still a filler and are not as healthy as just meat (example ingredient: herring).

I hope this is helpful for any potential buyers,

    Abbey

I used to feed my *obese* cats Blue Buffalo to get them more protein but they stopped eating it after awhile and didn’t see much change in weight. I switched to Tiki Cat about a year ago and they have lost almost 4 pounds! I alternate between wet and dry food (wet in the morning, dry in the evening) and they absolutely love it. They never get tired of it — and they seem to have more energy to climb and run around!

I have 3 cats and their usually very picky when it comes to their dry food. They all LOVE this! Switched from Purina Cat Chow because my pet store stopped carrying it. Started some research and found out they were eating pretty much garbage and Tiki Cat is really towards the top among all the different brands of cat food. It’s a little smelly if you put your nose in it but otherwise can’t smell it. A little on the pricey side but well worth it. Overall 10/10.

One of the best dry foods for cats

    LyndaK.

This product is wonderful. My cat loves it. If you check the cat food database online (do an online search and you’ll find it easily), you’ll see it is very highly rated and even one of the top selections. Kibble is just the right size. My cat loves the taste and gets excited when I go near the bag. She eats every last piece in her dish. The protein content is great and I love the fact there is no grain products. There is a review that someone wrote that says the kernels should be smaller, but I don’t know what that reviewer is talking about. The kibble is already small. That person must have a weird circumstance or might be mistaken. The kernels are small enough that I put them into the treat balls so she has to exercise to get her meal. Who knows what that reviewer is talking about, but this food is high quality and I’m glad TIKI Cat is working hard to make high quality foods for our “purrrfect” family members! Because the ingredients are real and there are no preservatives, be sure to adhere to the expiration date on the bag to make sure it’s fresh.

Hello! We recommend you give your cat the daily recommended feeding amount that we have listed on our Feeding Guidelines tab, which will be dependent on your cats weight, age, and activity level. The recommended amount will be the daily amount that your cat gets, so if you want to do 2 servings a day, you would divide that amount in half to reflect how much your cat would get per meal.

I showed the product information to my vet and they pointed out the calorie content is quite high. My cat is a 14.5 pound neutered male, 4 year indoor cat. He eats 1 1/3 to 1 1/2 cup per day and he loves it. Can you offer any perspective on the calorie intake for cats? Surely not all calories are equal and I know this is a high protein, grain free food but I want to be careful not to overfeed him. I have seen varying estimates online. The vet said for his size about 300 calories but this food is 482 per cup, and he isn’t satisfied with less than 1 1/3 cup per day.

Hello! The National Research Council recommends 70 kcal ME per kilogram of body weight, so it sounds like you are feeding the right amount. The amount to feed will vary based upon age, activity level, breed, size, and environment. Please use the feeding guidelines as an initial recommendation and adjust food amount as needed to maintain proper weight. As you and your vet know your cat best we recommend working with your vet for your cat’s specific dietary needs.

Hello, I have just started feeding my cat born carnivore chicken and fish luau. He really likes it and I like that your food looks to be much better than the typical kind you’d buy at stores. I just have one concern, this kind had almost 10% ash and I read for dry food that under 8% is recommended because of urinary issues. I have a male cat which I read are also more likely to get urinary issues than females. I noticed your born carnivore chicken version has only 2.3% ash so I”m thinking about switching to it. Would you think this is a better choice for a Male cat giving the ash percentage is quite a bit less than the chicken and fish luau?

We bought this for our 3 (now 4) cats in our household. We heard really good recommendations for this brand and got the chicken flavour to make the change easier. Our cats LOVE this food. Our kittens seem to be less hungry on this than other foods and the adults seem to be fed to a good point too. I highly recommend this food. I just wish my local petsmart sold bigger bags
